We are pleased to announce the eighth edition of TechLING, which will be held online from Besançon.

This international conference aims to explore the intersection of languages, arts, and innovative technologies, with a particular focus on inclusion and accessibility. Generative artificial intelligence will play a central role in this edition, highlighting its potential for personalized learning, intercultural communication, and digital creation. The conference will examine how these technologies can facilitate knowledge access, foster skill development, and enhance collaboration between humans and intelligent systems.

Since its inception in 2016, TechLing has brought together an international and interdisciplinary community of researchers, educators, students, technologists, and artists dedicated to exploring the synergies between linguistics, digital humanities, and artificial intelligence.

 
This eighth edition of techLING is structured around three main areas:
Track 1. Language Teaching and Inclusive Pedagogies in the Digital Age

 

AI-supported language learning: opportunities and challenges for more accessible and personalised education.

  • Adapting teaching content to the specific needs of learners (e.g. dyslexia, visual impairment, learning at different speeds).
  • Analysis of the effectiveness of conversational chatbots and voice assistants for language learning.
  • Automated feedback and personalised learning paths thanks to automatic natural language processing.

Language teaching and inclusion: adaptive teaching strategies for a heterogeneous public.

  • Integrating digital tools for more equitable learning in multicultural and multilingual environments.
  • Development of technological adaptations for teaching languages to people with disabilities.
  • Improving leaner engagement and motivation through gamified and immersive approaches.
  • Detecting and correcting pedagogical bias in language teaching using AI.
  • Interactive online courses and innovative methods to promote linguistic incluison.
  • Online teaching platforms with interactive and adaptive content.
  • Using augmented reality and virtual reality to create immersive experiences.

Using digital art as a language learning tool: immersive experiences and interactive performances in the classroom.

  • Development of the digital theatre, interactive storytelling and virtual role-playing to enhance language skills.
  • Integrating virtual and augmented reality to transform language learning and cultural immersion.
  • Creation of podcasts, videos and multimedia content by students for an active and participative approach to learning.
  • Using the translation and adaptation of artistic works as a teaching tool in language teaching.

Digital humanities and linguistic justice: training teachers and content creators in inclusion issues.

  • Raising awareness of linguistic inequalities in the digital space and adopting a more inclusive teaching approach.
  • Decolonisation of language learning tools and platforms to improve the equity of digital resources
  • Development of multilingual and accessible Open Educational Resources (OER) for barrier-free learning.
  • Co-creation of digital educational content that respects linguistic and cultural diversity.

 

Track 2. Language Technoogies, AI and Multilingual Accessibility

 

Artificial intelligence and automatic language processing: improving the accessibility of multilingual content for a wide audience, including people with disabilities.

  • Development of AI models capable of recognising and generating content in several languages, including poorly endowed languages and dialects.
  • Improving speech recognition and text-to-speech thanks to AI, particularly for languages with complex tones or characters.
  • Automatic language simplification using AI for people with reading disabilities or learning difficulties.

Exploring AI-based tools and language processing: refining machine translation and localisation in multilingual environments.

  • Customisation of machine translation systems according to the context of use (education, media, public services).
  • Improved localisation of educational, artistic and commercial content to ensure effective adaptation.

Machine translation and post-editing: guaranteeing inclusiveness and reducing linguistic bias.

  • Detecting and correcting cultural and gender bias in machine translation.
  • Strengthening the role of human translators in improving AI-generated content.
  • Training and upgrading the skills of translation professionals in the face of new linguistic technologies.

Linguistic accessibility and special needs: AI solutions to improve equity in communication.

  • Automation and customisation of subtitling and audio description to improve the user experience.
  • Development of AI-assisted sign language translation and assessment of its current limitations.
  • Improving multimodal interfaces and the interoperability of accessibility solutions to ensure seamless integration in various digital contexts.

AI and preservation of minority languages: strengthening linguistic equity and diversity.

  • Creation of corpora and databases for the documentation and revitalisation of endangered languages.
  • Mobilising native speakers via AI and linguistic crowdsourcing to enrich translation models.
  • Involvement of governments, academic institutions and technology companies in preserving poorly endowed languages.

 

Tracks 3. Digital Arts, Multimodal Creation and Cultural Inclusion

 

Using technology to enrich linguistic and cultural experiences through digital art.

  • Developing immersive and interactive experiences to rethink audience engagement through VR and AR.
  • Integration of minority and indigenous languages in artistic works and interactive performances.
  • Creation of multilingual artistic platforms promoting diversity and inclusion.

Translation and accessibility in digital art: adapting performances and content for a wider audience.

  • Development of automated subtitling and real-time translation for interactive shows and exhibitions.
  • Optimising artistic translation using artificial intelligence.
  • Accessibility of digital works for the visually and hearing impaired via audio narration, haptic interfaces and sign language translation.

Artistic creation and artificial intelligence: generating works that are multilingual and accessible to all.

  • Using generative algorithms to push back the boundaries of artistic expression.
  • Development of AI as a co-creation tool for artists and translators.
  • Designing AI models capable of generating inclusive artistic content that respects cultural diversity.
  • Management of ethical issues and intellectual property of works created by AI.

Interactive performances and linguistic diversity: integrating languages and cultures in the digital arts.

  • Developing multilingual and multicultural shows and performances that encourage linguistic interaction.
  • Experimenting with voice recognition technologies to adapt performance in real time.
  • Inclusion of dialects and endangered languages in digital artistic productions.

Art, technology and social commitment: raising awareness and inclusion through digital creation.

  • Using digital art as a tool of expression for marginalised linguistic communities.
  • Development of projects promoting socially committed art and social struggles using artificial intelligence.
  • Creation of platforms and collaborative spaces to promote linguistic and cultural mediation.

 

These tracks will explore the key issues of the conference by combining linguistic, artistic and technological perspectives from the angle of inclusion and diversity.
